HRB Singer: Central Pennsylvania’s Electronic Intelligence Battlefield

Join the Southeastern Pennsylvania Cold War Historical Society for a discussion with John Ramirez, former CIA Officer who worked for 25 years in the Intelligence Community. John served within the Directorate of Science and Technology, the Directorate of Intelligence and the National Counterproliferation Center.

HRB Singer in State College, PA was a pioneer and leader in the technical signals analysis of Soviet weapons systems. During the Cold War, HRB hosted technical experts from the US, British, and Australian intelligence communities. These electronic intelligence experts frequently gathered in State College to submit their analytical results for critical peer review in conferences covering Soviet missiles and aircraft undergoing development at their test ranges. Through these efforts, the US and allied partners gained insight into the strengths and vulnerabilities of these Soviet weapons, which in turn drove the designs of our own weapons that overcame these strengths and took advantage of the vulnerabilities.
