A History of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base

Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB) is a United States Air Force base about 10 miles northeast of Dayton, Ohio.  It includes both Wright and Patterson Fields, which were originally Wilbur Wright Field and Fairfield Aviation General Supply Depot.

The base's origins began in 1917 as a World War I installation and was established as Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in 1948, shortly after the establishment of Air Force as another branch of the US military in 1947.

Steve Byington is the Cultural Resources Manager at WPAFB who is a wealth of knowledge regarding the legacy of this historical establishment in our Heartland.
